Kaila Vandevender Mrs. McGonigal English II 10/5/2017 Discrimination Of People in the Workplace Does Discrimination still exist in the work environment? You bet. This paper focuses on discrimination laws that help women and men, who are treated differently because of their sexuality, race, religion and gender identity. Federal and State laws forbid discrimination against race, religion, sexual orientation, sex, and gender identity even though it still happens to many people. (Employment Law Handbook. (n.d.).) Discrimination Laws Organizations can t discriminate against individuals because of components such as race, sex, pregnancy, and/or handicap. (Wikipedia. (n.d.)) There are government laws that everybody must follow that are†¦show more content†¦(n.d.). ) Americans With Disabilities Act protects people with disabilities from employers who discriminate against them. (What Laws Make Discrimination in Employment Illegal? (n.d.).) This means that the employer has to employ the person with the disabilities in any aspect of employment, including interviews, testing, job assignments, evaluations, leave, discipline, training, benefits, medical exams, applications and firing. (Nolo.com. (n.d.).) Equal Pay Act requires workers to be paid the same amount for equal work. Employees must do the equal amount as the other, under similar working conditions, effort, responsibility and equal skills. If the workers have different job titles then they may have equal pay. Immigration Reform and Control Act prohibits applicants and employees to be fired or not hired by employers because of their citizenship or national origin.
